Its history is linked to Sorrento,  it was in fact its fraction until 1808. It owes its name to the Latin word Planities, for its flat conformation. Today the village boasts an intense business activity, heir of a secular tradition of trades. At present remarkable importance also covers the local agriculture. Piano di Sorrento still preserves in fact an intact intensive cultivation of citruses, with pergolas and “pagliarelle” to defend  the trees from rain and cold
